Every woman reaches a point in her life when a signature style is mandatory. A personal style reflects her lifestyle, age, career, hobbies and of course, personality.
“Signature style” is one of those terms encountered in all fashion editorials. But what does it means? How fashion icons like the Olsen twins, Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo manage to keep alive their own personal style, but still starting and wearing new trends?
We will try to summarize in 8 simple steps how to find your own personal style, and what should you keep in mind when it comes to improve your wardrobe.
- Understand your body shape
The most important thing is to understand your body shape and know the silhouettes that are always flattering you. We advise you to work with honest friends or family and find the hero items in your wardrobe. If you pay close attention to celebrities with similar shapes to you, then you’ll be able to spot the silhouettes that always work for them.
- Find your signature pieces
Most of our ultimate style icons have signatures that you can spot a mile off. This can be an accessory, a color or a print, or even a beauty trick. Caroline Issa has her unmovable red lipstick, Olivia Palermo and Kate Middleton have their glossy blow-dries, Anna Wintour has her sunglasses and the Olsen twins have their dramatic silhouettes (and Starbucks cups, of course).
- Invest in quality, not quantity
It’s very important to invest in ourselves, and in the quality of the items that we wear. A good quality piece can be worn for more than one season, and still looking as fabulous as if It’s new. We don’t need a wardrobe full of “cheap looking” items. Less is more #framboisegirls!
- Recognize the things you never like
When you are cleaning your closet, it’s highly indicated to toss all the things you don’t like to wear anymore. It goes without saying that just because every blogger you can think of is wearing a Gucci T-shirt doesn’t mean you should too, if tees just don’t make your heart sing.
- Find the color that suit you
And this applies for hair color, lipstick, accessorize etc. As well as finding the silhouettes that suit you, look around and take example form lookalike celebrities to find what suit you best.
- Discover your own “style icon”
Look past the usual celebrity style icons, and find inspiration everywhere, whether it’s in your mother or your music teacher from high school. Find a source of inspiration that trills your heart and you will find your own personal style.
- Do an audit to your wardrobe
The key to nailing personal style is all about having an efficient, organized wardrobe. According to one expert, when creating a capsule wardrobe, you should aim for less than 50 pieces or less. No idea where to begin? We think that the time to toss the pieces you don’t like anymore is NOW!
- Don’t rule out a “Uniform”
The word “uniform” might sound terribly boring, but many of the most stylish women we know have one, whether that’s for weekends, work or every single day. This could save you from that day when you have “nothing to wear”. Find your own uniform made out of chic sport pieces, mom’s jeans, tees and some cool sneakers, or a summer dress mixed with flat mules. This will definitely save your bad day!
